This program explores the fascinating connections between Paul Cuffe and a wider network of friends and family in Westport and beyond. Among his friends were Sylvester Gifford, the white master of Cuffe’s most famous ship, The Traveller; William Rotch; Absalom Boston, Nantucket’s first black whaling captain. His family network included leading abolitionists, whaling captains, authors, and daguerreotypists. Suggested donation $5.
