7 PM Thursday August 25 at Howland Hall, United Methodist Church, 1912 Main Road, Westport Point
A repeat performance of one of our most popular programs! David Jones will present his research using old photographs, maps, and postcards to visually re-create the East Beach community. East Beach was once lined with summer cottages, hotels, a dance hall, a bowling alley, skating rink and a Catholic church. It even had its own post office. The community of homes and businesses was literally wiped out by the hurricanes of 1938 and 1954. Today it is difficult to visualize the pre-hurricane beach. Suggested donation $5.
