250 Years of American History in Medals

Presented by Alex Krapf
Westport Public Library, 408 Old County Road, Westport MA
Join medal and coin collector Alex Krapf for a whirlwind tour of (some) coins and (mostly) medals through 250 years of American history. Coins, medals, and art are inextricably intertwined with history. Medals can be appreciated for their beauty or valued for their scarcity, but they can also tell stories to those willing to listen.
An informal “show and tell” session will follow the presentation for which medal collectors are invited to bring along items to share with the audience and for Alex to examine.
Westport resident Alex Krapf grew up in Germany but has been living in the U.S. since the 90s. His passion for medals was ignited in 2013 when one solitary medal in a museum display case caught his eye. Since then, he has been collecting medals with a particular focus on 20th century American Art Medals. He serves as Vice President of the American Numismatic Society (ANS) and as a Trustee of the American Medallic Sculpture Association (AMSA).
Suggested donation $5.
