Helen R. (Sampson) Moore (1893 – 1988)

Helen was the daughter of George Thomas and nellie (Teel) Sampson. Born in Medford in 1893, she was a summer resident of Westport Point from 1928 and became a year-round resident in 1955 to her death. Helen was a graduate of Wellesley College in 1916 but went on to get a master’s degree in clinical psychology from BU in 1949. During the 1930s she owned an advertising agency in Boston. She also ran Helen Moore, Inc. a leisure-mode shop in Wellesley until 1951. From 1950 to 1955 she was a psychiatric social work. She moved to Westport Point to pursue drawing, painting and etching. She had studied art with artists including Carl Nelson and studied etching at Radcliffe College. She was on the Advisory Committee of the Westport Board of Health Nursing Department and a volunteer at the Well-baby clinic. She was a founder and life-time member of the Westport Art Group. She lived at 2 Fairview Avenue. Her descendants have also made Westport Point their home.
