You are hereby a required in the name of said Commonwealth. To notify and warn the Inhabitants of said town of Westport qualified by the Constitution to vote for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Senators and Counsellors. To meet at the, Town house in said town on Monday the fourth day of April next at 11 o’clock in the forenoon to give in their votes for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Senators and Counsellors agreeable to the Constitution of said Commonwealth.
Hereof fail not and make return of this warrant with your doings thereon to us the subscribers on or before
said time of meeting.

That is an inhabitant of Bristol district, to represent them in the Congress of the United States of America for the term of two years, from the third day of March 1831.

You are hereby required in the name of said Commonwealth to notify and warn the freeholders and other Inhabitants of said Town of Westport duly qualified to vote for Town officers and other Town affairs. To assemble at the Town house in said Town on Monday the fourth day of April next at 9 o’clock in the forenoon to act on the following articles, viz.
1st to choose a moderator.
2nd to choose all such officers as towns by law are authorized to choose annually upon such conditions as the majority shall then and there agree.
3rd. to choose a committee to receive and examine all accounts brought against said Town and also to settle with the Treasurer.
4th. to determine what sum to raise by way of tax for the support of schools and in what manner it shall be appropriated and to act on all matters respecting schools and school districts that may be thought expedient.
5th. to determine what sum shall be expanded in repairs of highways and what manner in shall be appropriated.
6th. to determine what sum to raise by way to tax for the support of paupers and other incidental expenses.
7th. to determine what shall be done with highways when

They are blocked or incumbered with snow.
8th. to know the mind of the Inhabitants in regard to regulating the oyster fishery.
9th. to choose such other Committees or Agents as may be thought expedient.
10th. to give in their votes for county treasurer and also for a Register of Bees.

$1000. Voted. That the sum of one thousand dollars be raised by way of tax for repairing highways and Town ways in the Town of Westport the year ensuing to be assessed on the polls and estates of the Inhabitants and nonresident proprietors as other taxes are assessed and that the assessors assess the same as soon as may be and deliver a list of the persons names and of the sums they are assessed to each surveyor of his limits according to law.
That 75 cents be allowed by the surveyors for nine hours work of a man or pair of oxen and in that proportion for a less time, or more, that 25 cents be allowed for a cart or plow nine hours and in that proportion and that the aforesaid sum be expanded one half by the first day of July and the other by the first day of September next. That whenever the surveyor of any district shall make known to the Selectmen that he has faithfully expanded all the tax assessed on his district and the way is not sufficiently repaired the Selectmen shall determine the additional sum he may expend on said way and he may draw orders on the Treasurer for the amount so determined by the Selectmen in writing.
Voted. That the several School Districts that had schools taugth in them in the summer of 1830, which have had no money from the treasury, shall be entitled to receive the same amount that the other districts have received which had school taugth the same length of time.

Prudential Committees.
Voted. That the ten months of school provided for by law be dispensed with.
$850. Voted. That the sum of eight hundred and fifty dollars be raised by way of tax for to support of Schools the year ensuing: that one hundred and fifty dollars of said sum be apportioned among the several the remaining 700 dollars be apportioned among the several Districts that have schools taugth therein at least 3 months of 24 days each, by male teachers recommended by the general school committee. That the Selectmen in both cases divide the money among the several districts that have schools as aforesaid, as they shall think most equitable; for the summer schools by the first day of November next, and for the winter by the fifteenth day of March next, and draw orders on the treasurer for the several sums in favor of the Prudential committee. If said Prudential Committee shall make returns to the Selectmen by that time.
Voted. When highways are blocked off or incumbered with snow that it shall be trodden down or removed in the same manner that roads by law are to be repaired when Towns Town naglect to raise a sum of money for that purpose.
Voted. That no oysters be taken from the beds the year ensuing with out a permit from the Selectmen in writing stating the quantity

and that the Selectmen grant no permits except in cases of sickness.
$1650, voted. That the sum of sixteen hundred and fifty dollars be raised by way of tax on the polls and estates of the Inhabitants and nonresident proprietors of the town of Westport for to support of Paupers and other incidental expenses to be assessed, collected, and paid in to the Town treasury, one half by the first day of December and the other by the first day of April next. And the Assessors are hereby directed to assess said sum in the way and manner provided by law and deliver a list or lists thereof to the Collector as soon as may be.
The committee on accounts made a report in writing that they had attended to the business assigned them and found due to the several persons named in the list presented by them the sums set against their respective names
amounting in the whole to the sum of $2812.78.
It was thereupon voted to accept said report and the Treasurer was directed to pay the sums found due by the Committee to the several persons therein named and charge the same to the Town.
The Committee also made of report that agreeable to their appointment they had examined the account of the Treasurer and found that he had received for the Town the year passed the sum of $1981.61.
And had paid out 1618.68.
Leaving a balance in favour of the Town 362.93.
And made a settlement with him accordingly.
The committee further reported that the Town is now indebted on notes viz. $ 960.00.
On orders $1287.56.
$2247.56.
In Collector’s hand per Treasurer’s book $1318.15.
$ 929.41.

Voted. That the School Districts that had school taught therein in the year A.D. 1830, previous to the first day of November and have not drawn any money from the Treasury therefore shall be entitled to the same proportion as other districts have drawn.
Voted. That this meeting be adjourned to the third Saturday in June next at two o’clock P. M..

You are hereby required in the name of said Commonwealth to notify and warn the Inhabitants of said Town of Westport duly qualified to vote for Senators or Representatives to the General Court, to meet and assemble at the Town house in said Town on Wednesday the eleventh day of may next at one o’clock in the afternoon to give in their votes for or against an Article of Amendment to the Constitution, proposed by the Legislature of said Commonwealth by a resolve passed the seventh day of March A.D. 1831.
Hereof fail not and make returns of this warrant with your doings thereon at or before said time of meeting. Given under our hands and seals at Westport this fourth day of April A.D. 1831.

And also to know the mind of the Town in regard to paying the militia the amount of their poll taxes where their officers need neglected their duty in making returns to the Assessors.

Voted. That there be two Representatives chosen.
Abner B. Gifford Esq. and James H. Handy Esq. were accordingly chosen and record and declaration thereof made as by the Constitution is directed.
Voted that the Assessors direct the Treasurer to pay the Soldiers whose names were not returned by their Officers in season, or according to law, and have or may be returned within the year. The amount of their poll taxes on the same principle that those were paid whose names were returned agreeable to law.

Monday June 27, 1831 agreeable to adjournment from the eighteenth inst: the inhabitants of Westport met accordingly and passed the following votes viz..
Voted. That the Treasurer be the Collector of taxes the year ensuing to have one percent on what he receives. That the Assessors when they deliver the tax bills to the Collector shall give notice thereof by posting up notifications of the names in six publick places in the town. That those who voluntarily pay their taxes to the Collector within 60 days from the date of said notice shall be entitled to an abatement of five percent from their taxes.

That those who pay as aforesaid after sixty and within one hundred and twenty days from the date of said notice shall be entitled to an abatement of three percent from their said taxes.
That the collector shall meet the Inhabitants for the purpose of receiving said taxes, at the Point, at the head of the West River and at the head of the East River, at some convenient time which shall be named in the Assessors notifications, within the 60 days first mentioned and also at the same places at some convenient time within the one hundred and twenty days and shall receive taxes from Inhabitants on other days at his own house.
Voted. That Allen Devol be Constable of the town of Westport the year ensuing on condition of paying eleven dollars into the Town Treasury and doing the town’s business as constable without any compensation.

Pursuant to the within warrant I have notified the Inhabitants of said Westport for the purpose within mentioned by posting up notifications at the store of Peckham and Howland and Frederick Brownell, at the Town house in said Westport, also on the Point in said Westport all being publick places within said Westport.

At a legal meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Westport qualified agreeable to law, held at the Town house in said town on Monday the fourteenth day of November 1831, for the purpose expressed in the foregoing warrant.
Votes for the following persons were given in sorted, counted, record and declaration thereof made as by the Constitution is directed.
For Micah H. Ruggles two hundred and seventy votes 270.
For James L. Hodges forty nine votes 49.
For James Howland 2nd seven votes 7.
For Francis Bailies four votes 4.
For Nathan C. Brownell one vote 1.

Bristol S. S.. To Allen Devol Constable of the Town of Westport, greeting.
You are hereby required in the name of said Commonwealth to notify and warn the Inhabitants of said Town of Westport duly qualified to vote for Representatives to the General Court of said Commonwealth. To assemble at the Town house in said town on Monday the sisteenth day of January next at ten o’clock in the forenoon to give in their votes for one Representative that is an Inhabitant of Bristol District. To represent them in the Congress of United States of America for the term of two years from the third day of March A.D. 1831.
Hereof fail not and make return of this warrant with your doings thereon at or before said time of meeting. Given under our hands and seals at Westport this twenty eight day of December A.D. 1831.
