Local historian and genealogist Richard Gifford will explore the stories of the first generation of settlers in Westport in the 17th century who were drawn by an abundance of rich farmland, navigable waterways, protected harbors and by the desire for religious freedom. Who were they? Where did they come from? Why did they settle here and what was life like for them? This presentation will provide a general overview of early European settlement and will also focus on the Tripp, Gifford, Macomber and Wing families.
