These include the Mayflower passengers Richard Warren, Francis Cooke and John Cooke. In 1620s Plymouth, the Cookes lived next door to the infant Peregrine White, grandfather of Elizabeth’s husband. Elizabeth’s great-grandfather John Cooke was cast out of the Plymouth Church for being “a cause of trouble and dissension” and moved to what is now Fairhaven, the only Mayflower passenger to live in Old Dartmouth. Elizabeth’s father George Cadman was one of the largest landowners in Westport, owning over 800 acres.
Part of a series of mid-week encounters with the past inspired by objects in the collection of the Historical Society.
